All About Me

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another school year.  I would like to begin by introducing myself.  My name is Laura Brown and this is my 11th year in education.  I graduated from The University of South Carolina and Converse College with degrees in Elementary Education.  I’ve taught sixth, fifth and third grades.  I am married to my wonderful husband Stephen and we have three sweet fur babies. Henry, our 11 year-old white lab, is the sweetest dog on earth and is a lap dog during thunder storms, despite his size. Callie and Gracie are our kitties and love to cuddle and play with their toys.

At PGS, teachers use the College and Career Readiness and South Carolina State Standards to guide our instruction.  Your child will receive instruction daily in Reading, English Language Arts, Writing, Spelling, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Handwriting. Students will participate in Music, Art, PE, Library, Computer Technology, SAIL, and Guidance throughout the week.  My goal is for all of my students to have fun while learning as much as they possibly can.

Homework Folders will come home daily. The weekly newsletter will be in the folder each Monday letting you know important things happening that week.  Students will also have their homework assignments on the back of the newsletter. This should be signed every night letting me know your child did all of his/her homework. Friday Folders will come home each Friday with student work.  Please review the papers with your child so they can learn from their mistakes.  Keep your child’s papers, but the progress report should be returned with your signature on Mondays.  Our Classroom Behavior Management Plan is explained on the back of this page.  Please go over this with your child, sign the paper, and send it back tomorrow in his/her homework folder.

We are going to have an exciting year together.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me any time.  My email address is and the school phone number is 583-1868.  You may also send a note in your child’s homework folder. Thank you in advance for your support this year!
